Letchworth State Park, Mt. Morris, New York

Founded in 1907 whenWilliam Pryer Letchworth donated 1,000 acres of his property to the state of New York.  The park has grown to 14,500 acres along the Genesee River.  There are three waterfalls along the river, gorge cliffs, and Mt. Morris Dam.  You can go whitewater rafting, horseback riding, hiking in the forest, camping, stay over night in cabins that sleep up to 6 people, or stay in the Glen Iris hotel all on the property.  All the guest rooms at the hotel have tree names, I stayed in the Larch Room and dined in the their restaurant.  Delicious, 4 star food!  The park is open year round.  There are a couple restaurants in the park along with snacks shacks,  a museum, gift shops where you can also purchase some camping supplies, and a visitors center.  This is a carry in-carry out park, so be prepared to take your garbage with you when you leave.

When I was staying at the Gould the day before, I met a couple nurses over breakfast and they recommended the park.  I had never heard of it before.  If you are ever in the area, don't miss it, it is spectacular.  It is also very quiet and not crowded.  They do have events so check out their website if you want to see a concert there or attend one of their festivals or BBQs.
